General FAQs

What is OroScan?
OroScan is a specialist oral diagnostic network focused on advanced dental imaging, Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral Pathology and Digital Diagnosis.
OroScan is primarily focused on diagnosis and diagnostic support rather than routine dental treatment. Your treating dentist or specialist remains responsible for your clinical care and treatment plan.
OroScan supports patients referred for diagnostic investigations as well as dentists, dental specialists, hospitals, clinics, institutions and imaging centres.
In most cases, your treating dentist or specialist will identify the appropriate investigation. If you already have a referral or prescription, bring it with you or contact the nearest OroScan centre for guidance.
CBCT & Imaging

CBCT & Imaging FAQs

What is a CBCT scan?
CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography. It provides three-dimensional images of teeth, jaws, bone and surrounding anatomical structures.
A conventional dental X-ray is two-dimensional. CBCT can provide three-dimensional information and allows clinicians to review anatomy from multiple planes and angles.
CBCT may be recommended when additional three-dimensional information is required for implant planning, complex endodontic cases, impacted teeth, orthodontics, oral surgery, TMJ, sinus or other maxillofacial assessment.
If your dentist or specialist has requested a specific CBCT investigation, bring the referral or prescription with you. This helps the centre understand the area and clinical question to be examined.
Yes. When clinically appropriate, CBCT can help the treating clinician assess available bone and important anatomical relationships at a proposed implant site.
Yes, in selected complex endodontic cases where three-dimensional information may provide additional anatomical detail.
CBCT may help clinicians evaluate the three-dimensional position of impacted teeth and their relationship with nearby roots, nerves and surrounding structures when clinically necessary.

Centres & Visits FAQs

How do I find my nearest OroScan centre?
Use the OroScan Centre Finder to search by centre name, city, area or PIN code and choose the location most convenient for you.
Service availability may vary by location. Contact the selected centre before visiting if you require a specific scan, pathology service or advanced diagnostic investigation.
Bring your dentist’s referral or prescription and any previous scans, X-rays or reports that may be relevant to the current investigation.
It is recommended when you require a specific investigation, need to confirm timings or are unsure which service has been requested.
OroScan supports digital diagnostic and reporting workflows. The exact delivery process depends on the service and centre, so confirm this during your visit or with your referring dentist.

Oral Radiology FAQs

What is Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology?
It is the dental specialty concerned with the acquisition, interpretation and diagnostic use of imaging involving the teeth, jaws, face and related structures.
Yes. CBCT image reporting forms part of OroScan’s Oral Radiology service portfolio.
OroScan’s established radiology services include maxillofacial CT reporting, extra-oral and intra-oral radiographic evaluation, cephalometric analysis, TMJ analysis, sinus analysis, implant placement reporting and selected airway or sleep-apnoea CBCT evaluation.
A specialist report may be useful when imaging contains complex findings or when additional interpretation can support diagnosis and treatment planning.
No. A radiology report contributes specialist imaging findings. Your treating dentist or specialist combines those findings with examination, history and other relevant clinical information.
Oral Pathology

Oral Pathology FAQs

What is Oral Pathology?
Oral Pathology is the diagnostic evaluation of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws and related tissues, often using microscopic examination of tissue or cellular samples.
Yes. OroScan’s pathology services include histopathology for oral biopsy specimens together with other diagnostic pathology support.
Histopathology is the microscopic examination of tissue to help establish or refine a diagnosis.
Yes. Cytopathology is included in OroScan’s published Oral Pathology services.
Immunohistochemistry uses selected tissue markers to assist diagnostic classification in appropriate cases. It is not required for every specimen.
Special stains are additional laboratory staining techniques used in selected cases to highlight particular tissue components or organisms.
OroScan’s existing service information states a 48-hour service for routine biopsies. Complex cases, additional stains, immunohistochemistry or specimen-related issues may require more time.
The sample is generally collected by the treating dentist, oral surgeon or clinician. Contact OroScan Pathology for the current specimen-submission and transport process.
Digital Diagnosis

Digital Diagnosis FAQs

What is Digital Diagnosis?
OroScan’s Digital Diagnosis combines teleradiology and telepathology, allowing suitable diagnostic images to be transmitted electronically for remote specialist analysis.
Teleradiology is the electronic transmission of radiological images so a specialist radiologist can interpret them from another location.
Telepathology allows suitable pathology images to be transmitted digitally for remote specialist review and consultation.
It is primarily a clinician-facing service for dentists, specialists, clinics, hospitals, institutions and imaging centres seeking specialist radiology or pathology input.
Yes in principle. The service is designed around transmitting diagnostic material between locations so specialist interpretation is not limited to a single physical centre.
No. Specialist digital interpretation supports the treating clinician. The final clinical decision remains with the dentist or specialist responsible for your care.
